Navratri is a festival celebrated differently in various parts of the Indian Cultural Sphere in the honor of the divine feminine Devi Durga. The festival is associated with the prominent battle that took place between Durga and demon Mahishasura and celebrates the victory of good over evil. These nine days are solely dedicated to goddess Durga and her nine avatars (incarnation of the goddess )- the Navdurga.

 

Day 1: Shailaputri

Shailaputri (literally daughter of mountain) is an incarnation of Parvati who is worshiped as the consort of Shiva which depicts action and vigor. The color of the day is red. Women must assimilate courage from Maa Shailputri to stand against domestic violence.

 

Day 2: Brahmacharini

An incarnation of Parvatis’ unmarried self, Brahmacharini is worshipped for salvation and endowment of peace and prosperity. The goddess symbolizes bliss and calms with the color code blue depicting strong energy. Women must assimilate energy from the goddess to raise their voice for their rights- access to education and reproductive health.

 

Day 3: Chandraghanta

This incarnation of Parvati is the embodiment of beauty and symbol of bravery. Yellow is the color code of the day which inspires the women power to enjoy and believe in freedom of living as per their choice. Day 4: Kushmanda
Goddess Kushmanda is worshiped and believed to be the creative power of the universe with the endowment of vegetation on Earth. The color of the day is green. The World needs to accept the fact of women being the reason for prosperity around us commonly known as “Annapoorna”.

 

Day 5: Skandamata

The goddess worshiped on the fifth day is the mother of Kartikeya. The color of grey is symbolic of the transforming strength of a mother when her child is confronted with danger. Women need to muster fearlessness and determination to face any kind of trouble that appears in front of them.

 

Day 6: Katyayani

An incarnation of Durga to exhibit courage also known as the warrior goddess. The color of the day is Orange. She is considered one of the most violent forms of Devi Maha Lakshmi. No doubt women are a true form of Lakshmi to each and every home and possess enough strength to answer back the hurdles of her life.

 

Day 7: Kalaratri

The most ferocious form of Goddess Durga, Kalaratri appears in a white color attire with a lot of rage in her fiery eyes, her skin turns black. The White color of the day portrays prayer and peace and ensures safety & protection from harm. Women must imbibe the qualities of Maa Kalaratri for the destruction of demons who execute or think of sexual violence.

 

Day 8: Mahagauri

Mahagauri symbolizes intelligence and peace. The color of the day is Pink which depicts optimism. Women of recent times need to believe and hope for a positive change in living standards and access to equal opportunity taking necessary actions or steps to remove racism and inequality.

 

Day 9: Siddhidatri

This form of Goddess is known as Lakshmi Devi. Sitting on a lotus, she is believed to possess and bestow all types of blessings. The light blue color of the day portrays an admiration towards nature’s beauty. If the World safeguards the feminine gender by giving all equal rights to live life, mother nature will surely bestow all types of blessing to everyone.
